Be mindful of the formal announcement of Star Wars: Episode VII, my young Padawan.

You're reading that right. Maybe it's too much for your Force-sensitive heart, but Walt Disney, the living planet, has devoured another realm: Lucasfilm. Combined with the purchase of Marvel Entertainment for US$ 4 billion in 2009 and of Pixar Animation Studios for US$ 7.4 billion in 2006, Disney, the Hunger that Does Not Cease, has bought the company of George Lucas for US$ 4.5 billion dollars. Disney has confirmed the info in their official website yesterday (Tuesday, October 30th, 2012).

The release also informs that Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in world-wide theaters by 2015. This will be the first Star Wars movie developed by Walt Disney, and will be followed by episodes VIII and IX, coming every two or three years thereafter. According to Lucas, who will still act as the consultant of the new trilogy, "it's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers".

Question is, is that a good thing?

Good is a point of view, Anakin.

I can't see Disney screwing up Star Wars any worst than Lucas screwed it up. Maybe they'll actually release a version of the Star Wars trilogy without annoying edits made to it? Or maybe there won't be any annoying Jar Jars in episode VII (though I have no idea how they're going to pull off an episode VII considering the empire's been destroyed and all, I guess there's expanded universe stuff to go on). And hey, Marvel's still awesome even after Disney bought it, look at the Avengers movie, that didn't suck. And we can now FINALLY be able to see the old X-Men and other Marvel cartoons on the Disney channel.
